Announcing the Super Mobility Week House Band...

Featuring Thomas Dolby + ETHEL

Thomas Dolby has spent his career at the intersection of music and technology. Considered a mad scientist of synth pop, he was an early star on MTV, then moved to Silicon Valley. Now he's back on the road and heading to Las Vegas to ring in the new age of wireless. Thomas Dolby joins Super Mobility Week as music director and house band leader. He will be accompanied by string quartet ETHEL as they perform during the keynote sessions on September 9, 10 & 11.

Perhaps best known for blinding us with science, Thomas Dolby has always blurred the lines between composition and invention. Two decades, several film scores, five Grammy nominations and countless live-layered sound loops later, it’s clear Dolby's innovations have changed the sound of popular music. In the 1990s, Dolby recreated himself as a digital musical entrepreneur, founding Beatnik, which developed the polyphonic ringtone software used in more than half a billion cell phones. For more than ten years Dolby served as the Music Director for the TED conferences and was most recently appointed to the Johns Hopkins University faculty as the first Homewood Professor of the Arts.
